Looking into the polished face, the blue flash appears in bright vertical bands with areas of deeper cobalt, turquoise-blue, and pale luminous glow. The pointed obelisk shape gives the colour a strong upward movement, while the broad front face frames the labradorescence clearly.

This crystal shows smoky dark body colour around the sides and termination, giving contrast to the vivid flash through the centre. Natural mineral veining crosses the face in darker branching lines, adding depth and a rugged internal landscape beneath the polished surface.

You can see layered internal zoning throughout the body, with fine linear textures, darker mineral threads, and shadowed grey-black sections visible from the angled views. The rear and side faces reveal a more subdued flash, making the brighter front face feel especially dramatic.

This polished Labradorite obelisk brings together vivid blue flash, smoky dark body colour, layered internal zoning, natural mineral veining, and a strong upright display profile, making it a collectible and visually striking piece with excellent display value.

Labradorite Origins & Background

Labradorite is a visually striking feldspar mineral best known for its vivid flashes of color—an optical effect often referred to as labradorescence. These flashes may appear as blues, greens, golds, oranges, and even purples, seeming to move across the surface as the stone is viewed from different angles.

The stone was first identified in Labrador, Canada, from which it takes its name. Today, notable sources include Canada, Madagascar, Finland, Russia, and parts of Australia. Each locality produces Labradorite with its own characteristic color range and intensity.

Throughout history, Labradorite has been associated with transformation, protection, and hidden potential—qualities reflected in the way its inner fire reveals itself only when viewed from the right angle.

Labradorite Geological Information

Labradorite is a calcium-rich plagioclase feldspar that forms in igneous rocks such as gabbro, basalt, and anorthosite. The famous labradorescence effect is caused by light interference within microscopic lamellar structures inside the crystal.

These internal layers reflect and refract light, producing the shimmering color play that makes Labradorite so distinctive. Without this internal structure, the stone may appear grey or dark on the surface despite its hidden brilliance.
